Your First
Visit To The Acupuncturist

At your first visit to the acupuncturist time is
spent doing an extensive intake and a complete medical history.
You will be asked many detailed questions about your condition
and lifestyle.
Chinese medicine is holistic and we require information
beyond just your immediate complaint.
At your first visit to the acupuncturist and also at
subsequent visits, your pulses will be palpated and we will
look at your tongue.
The abdomen may also be palpated. These are three areas
which provide much diagnostic information. Areas of pain may
also be palpated.
Acupuncture looks at the whole person and aims to find the
roots of your illness.
The first consultation will last up to an hour and a half
whereas following sessions will only last up to an hour.
Please wear loose comfortable
clothing and be aware that points on your torso may need to be
accessed as well as on the arms and legs.
There are some points you should pay attention to when
coming for treatment:
■ Please bring details of your medical history and of
any drugs or treatments you are currently having.
■ Please
do not skip meals before coming for treatment. If you are
coming for a morning appointment, make sure you have breakfast.
■ Please
have enough water to drink during the day before your
appointment so that you are not dehydrated.
■ Please
avoid alcohol before coming for treatment.
